This was a really fun project from start to finish, with a fantastic half derelict building situated in classic English countryside acting as the perfect backdrop for this flamboyant creation. We were asked to make several locations around the UK look and feel as though they were based in the Everglades of Florida, with the plants and landscapes changing to have an ever increasing 'Other Worldliness' about them as the film progressed. At Leavesden studios, on location and building sample trees in our greenhouses in Surbiton.
Our first commission was for Stuart Craig on Hugh Hudson's Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes in 1984, when Filmscapes founder and director Ron Whittle was asked to create 'living' sets. Hadrian Whittle, trained landscape gardener, committed plantsman (and believe it or not, coarse fishing ace in his spare time) is the other half of the brother and sister team that heads up Filmscapes. Working closely with creative directors, set designers and private customers, Hadrian helps realise the ultimate vision - creating detailed drawings, perspectives, elevations and construction plans.
