We define all our work by the twin essentials of contemporary design - space and light. Whether new-build or extensions we draw on the Mediterranean or Tropical response to climate for inspiration by connecting the building to its surroundings with sliding doors, canopies, and decks, blurring the divisions between internal and external to create serene yet inspiring spaces flooded with natural light. In cities, dark, cellular layouts of older properties can be liberated by removing walls and tilting extension roofs upwards away from the building to take in the views of the surroundings and the sky, an experience so often missing from traditional urban living.

Peter graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1984. After graduation, Peter spent some time in the United States before moving to London where he joined the competition winning shopping centre team at RHWL Partnership. After surviving the recession working from his living room doing 'anything that came through the door', Peter picked up a number of aspirational clients with open design briefs. This gave him the opportunity to excel at his passion for contemporary home design. In 1995, Peter decided to start a practice specialising in contemporary residential design and he hasn't look back since.

Thomas de Cruz Architects & Designers specialises in bespoke contemporary homes for private clients. We are an experienced small practice of more than 20 years standing and our primary design philosophies are timelessness, clean lines, space, light, connection with the garden or landscape and response to climate. Our creative and open outlook absorbs ideas and influences from around the world to produce sensitive contemporary architecture with an emphasis on imaginative interiors and creative lighting.
