G S Haydon & Son Ltd are a North Devon based and family run Joinery company. Our objective is to produce quality Joinery and maintain excellent relations with private customers, trades people and architects while seeking new customers to work with. We have traded within South Molton in North Devon for nearly 100 years supplying all manner of wooden products within Exmoor, Dartmoor, Devon and Somerset. We have nearly 100 years experience in the Joinery trade after being established 1926. We began as a Wheelwrights business and developed the joinery side of the business through the years.

We produce a range of quality sash windows in our North Devon Workshop. We have worked on refurbishing ancient sash windows from the 1670's right through to making and installing new modern double glazed sash windows to meet current standards across North Devon, Devon, Exmoor, Dartmoor and West Somerset. Sash Windows (also known as Sliding Sash Windows or Box Sash Windows) are a highly innovative design that have been with us for sometime, most evidence points to mid 17th century as the time of introduction.

Our flush fitting window is a classic and attractive window. Ideally suited for conservation projects that require high performance and a traditional look. They are equally at home used in contemporary projects due to their clean simple lines. As with all our joinery almost all casement windows can be made to any shape and size depending on your needs and requirements and are further enhanced with classic mouldings such as Ovolo and Ogee or simple Chamfered edges. Although the appearance is traditional our wooden windows are fitted with modern refinements such as high performance draught resistant seals, energy saving glass and robust ironmongery.

Exterior stable doors, designed for a home are a very unique and practical type of door. They lend themselves very well to being a kitchen, back or porch door. Exterior stable doors have the unique ability to open the top half without the need to open the bottom half. This is a perfect solution for homes with pets or young children, as you can keep the lower half closed and keep the top open allowing circulation of fresh air. We supply and install our solid wood, exterior stable doors across North Devon.

Bi Fold doors offer a unique and practical way of adding another dimension to your house allowing you to open up a whole portion of your wall to the outside world. The modern Bi Fold door systems operate with ease combining the benefits of folding doors with the ability to keep the weather out with no corrosion worries. With the increasing popularity of these doors over the years the quality of the hardware has improved massively. We like to advise our clients to use the latest hardware on our Bi Fold doors which feature 316 Stainless Steel components, Polymer bearings and is tested to 250,000 cycles.

We offer an extensive range of doors for you to consider. From grand entrance doors to humble ledged doors. Please browse our gallery for ideas. We also make like for like copies of original joinery when required and work closely with the client to get exactly what they want and need. Our wooden can befitted with high performance draught seals and are constructed from quality joinery grade Hardwood, Softwood, Oak and Accoya. In addition to this we can fit a range of high quality fittings to your joinery from traditional wrought iron to modern multi-point locks and draught resistant thresholds.

Our wooden stair service is truly bespoke. We can help you find a design that both satisfies the required building regulations and achieves the desired design. Whatever it is, a curved staircase, simple straight flight, open tread or any design you wish we will work closely with you to get exactly what you want. Please browse our gallery to see the stairs that we completed. We also make more simple stairs too. We can supply and fit our stairs to ensure everything comes together as it should or if you have experience fitting stairs or know a good carpenter/builder we can also offer a supply only service.

Combining traditional methods applied over 90 years of trading from our base in North Devon with complementary modern methods and materials, we are able to offer excellent quality wooden windows made in our Devon workshop. Wood has proven itself over many hundreds of years as an ideal medium for making quality windows. Windows are often described as the "eyes of a house" and choosing to have quality replacement wooden windows makes a real difference to the balance of any building. As well as looking perfect for those heritage settings, wood windows look perfect in contemporary settings.

Whether your interior joinery project is a library, wine cellar, dressing room or wardrobe we have the skills and experience to bring your project to life. We work closely with private clients, interior designers and architects to ensure the desired project is completed to the client vision. We have completed a wide variety of interior joinery projects from Library's in exclusive properties in London to fire surround's in humble Devon cottages. If you have an idea or some plans you we would like to hear from you and to discuss your project.

Our conservatories are completely bespoke as every house and client requires something different and personal to their own project. We work hard to achieve the visions outlined by the client or architect and realize them in wood. Due to our large purpose built workshop in Devon we are able to make and assemble all of the components required for a conservatory in our workshop rather than onsite. This means that the fitting service can be very rapid as all that will be required is re-assembly. We have made many conservatories and have made them from various timbers such as hardwoods like Oak and Idigbo and super durable softwoods like Accoya and with many configurations of glazing, doors and casements.

Our kitchens are completely unique and bespoke. It is essential that we work closely with prospective clients, architects and interior designers to create the kitchen that becomes the hub of the home. Our kitchens can be made from a wide variety of materials from based on the context and aspirations. Oak, tulip wood, birch, MDF and many more all have their place. We also offer a wide variety of fittings from soft close doors and drawers, magic corners to handmade cutlery dividers. Worktops are the finishing touch that bring the job together.

As well as repairs, retro fitting seals and adding double glazing we can also offer a redecoration service for your joinery. If your windows have started to look tired we are able to help, over the many years as a joinery we have learnt what works and what does not work when decorating joinery so are able to supply you with our expertise and knowledge and a professionally redecorated item. We even helped a local textile company repair some of their machinery! The image below is an example of one of their Victorian machines we worked on.

At G S Haydon we don't just make new joinery we also refurbish and repair old joinery. Wood is very forgiving and it can be more cost effective to repair joinery than to replace it. When you have an old sash, casement or door that has started to rot we can simply remove the infected timber and splice in a new matching section. When repairing joinery it can be an ideal time to add further refinements such as seals or replacing defective ironmongery. We will discuss with you potential solutions that improve the performance.

It's the first thing that greets you when you arrive at house and few things are as welcoming as a substantial wooden entrance door. We make distinctive entrance doors which create a focal point for your home. Wood enables a wide variation in design in many period or contemporary styles. Both painted and stained wood offer opportunities to make an entrance door that sits comfortably with the surrounding structure. Hardwoods in a natural colour stain are a very popular choice which offers a nice contrast to the rest of the building.

Lift and Slide doors are a unique type of door, similar in concept to a Bi Fold door. The advantage of lift and slide is less door stiles to inhibit your view when the door is closed however the limitation is that there is always one panel in obstructing when in the open position. Lift and Slides work best on very wide openings with stunning views or when large glazed areas are essential to the overall design of the project. The lift and slide door works by operating the door handle which unlatches the door and in turn lifts the door up from its weather sealing track to allow the door to slide easily.

Interior doors require a different level of attention than external doors. One common theme is the traditional time proven joinery. With many houses having non standard sizes we often need to replicate the designs of historical doors to fit within the fabric of the existing home. Rot in not an issue with interior doors however stability is still required. To that end we like to use engineered softwood components on painted work and dry well seasoned hardwoods. We also make linings and frames to suit our doors and we fit these on site too.

G S Haydon have also worked closely with other businesses and private clients to design and manufacture bespoke office interiors and storage solutions. These have ranged from a curved entrance desk to solid oak storage boxes. We are able to use many materials from laminates, hardwoods down to melamine, all are used to be most effective for the use and cost of the intended item or down to the customers specification. We can also help and advise in different ways to maximize the storage in your office.
