Then why go through the stress and cost of moving house when a loft conversion is one of the cheapest, easiest and efficient ways of renovating your house to increase your living space.

Each loft conversion is unique and brings with it it's own set of challenges none so more than fitting the staircase. Beyond performing their purpose of providing a passage way, stairs can serve as a powerful design feature. Over the past 20 years, we've installed hundreds of loft conversion staircases and have built many different practical and attractive solutions. The range of designs we can build and the materials we can use is vast covering everything from different types of wood, spindles, rails, carpet/ surfacing and more.

Adding a loft conversion to your home does change the exterior view but exactly how much depends on the type of loft conversion which you can see in our Exteriors gallery.

Roofline line conversions are generally adequate for those contemplating the smaller loft conversion where adequate height is available within the existing loft space. Even in a confined loft space, the addition of a couple of VELUX windows can create a surprisingly lighty and airy room that may be ideal as an extra bedroom or a hobby room. Rooflights can also be installed to provide more light with a minimum of disruption. If you do opt for a roofline conversion, the addition of a cabrio velux can make your conversion unique.

At the moment it may only be used as a general storage area or somewhere to house the water tank yet with a little imagination and the help of our professional expertise, your loft could be transformed into versatile living area. You could be sitting under a hidden asset that has never seen the light of day. At the moment it may only be used as a general storage area or somewhere to house the water tank. Yet with a little imagination and the help of our professional expertise, your loft could be transformed into versatile living area.

Whether you need planning permission for your loft conversion depends entirely upon which type of loft conversion you require: roof line or dormer. As the loft is converted within the existing shape of the roof there would be no extension or alteration to the existing shape of the roof/building. The only time when planning permission is required is if your property is in a conservation area where there may be restrictions on the size and shape of the VELUX windows you wish to install. Because the size, shape and general design of Dormers can vary greatly, not all dormer conversions require planning permission.

One of the keys to making a loft conversion look good without it costing you the earth is to use windows built into the shape of the roof. Even in a confined loft space, the addition of a couple of VELUX? In your quotation, (unless you request otherwise) as standard we fit two white or pine top hung 78cm wide x 140cm high Velux to the front roof slope in the position of your choice and over the new stairs we fit a small center pivot Velux to give natural light to the stairwell. We always supply you with the latest Velux brochure if you wish different types or sizes, you can then see if there is any price difference.

Dormer conversions are ideal for when the existing loft space is limited or is of insufficient size for the proposed conversion. A dormer is a window set vertically projecting from a sloping roof. They transform your loft into a far more usable area by letting a good source of light and ventilation and by increasing the amount of headroom. If an additional bathroom is proposed along with the rooms, the increased height created by the dormer provides additional height above the fittings. A gable fronted dormer is the most common type of dormer and has a simple pitched roof of two sloping planes, supported by a frame that rises vertically to form a triangular section below the roofline, i.e. a gable.

The type of loft conversion that you can undertake depends factors such as the design of your existing roof, your budget, planning restrictions and your own preferences. There are several types of conversion but most fall into one of two categories: Dormer Conversions and Roofline Conversions. Dormer conversions are ideal for when the existing loft space is limited or is of insufficient size for the proposed conversion.

What's new?

A few weeks on and this loft is coming along nicely. Steels are now in, some of the new floor joists have been fitted and the weather has been good'ish to us so we've managed to get the main framework of the dormer built and got the flat roof all water tight

Start of a new year and the start of a new job. This House's previous owner had a drum kit in the loft and made sure it was sound proof. Before we can make a start we have to rip everything out top to bottom, shame really as who ever put this lot together done a good job of it
