Windows are one of the most expressive and vital features of a building, serving as part of the thermal envelope while affording light transmission, sound control, and natural ventilation. While window designs have long varied in opening size, sash pattern, and shape, they remained largely made from timber until the early 20th century, when aluminium became a feasible material option. Originally, aluminium windows naturally attracted condensation, due to the inherent properties of the product. To get over this problem, windows and doors had to be installed using a timber sub frame, which acted as a thermal break between the window/door and the property.
