We specialise in the energy efficient restoration and replacement of heritage timber windows, and doors using a hybrid of services and budget. Every piece we create is of the highest quality, from design, manufacture through to installation. We are proud that most of our work comes through recommendations from our happy and enthusiastic customers. Our blend of architectural and joinery experience gained over many years has given us the unique ability to meet the exacting requirements of your project, whilst having a full breadth of skills that enable us to include any additional works you require.

Matt and Tracey Freeman first set up Old English window company following their own experiences renovating a period property. From our formation in 2007 we set out to supply high quality tailored home improvements that enhance your property whilst adding real long-term value to your property, and giving great service along the way. We use only the finest materials, responsibly procured, to give your new bespoke window or door, maximum durability. We help you carefully select all of your ironmongery from quality British manufacturers to give increased security whilst also enhancing the style of your new joinery.

All our timber windows and doors are installed with high efficiency double glazed units carrying the British Standard Kite Mark, which are guaranteed for 5 years. All our double-glazed glass can be made with safety, obscure tinted and decorative glass, long with a wide range of Georgian, Quadra and Bonded bar options. Our double-glazed units will be tailored to your individual requirements and specification. All units can be made in a variety of thickness and with different colour spacer bars. As with our joinery, we specialise in recreating traditional leaded glass and stunning contemporary panels into our units, without compromise to modern day requirements.

Whatever your style or age of property, our new casement window replacements are designed to enhance and replicate whilst giving maximum thermal efficiency and security. Using the highest quality materials our new casement window replacements can be fitted in a range of styles and materials, from our totally bespoke new hardwood windows, to our Unique Elegance timber alternative windows, allowing both commercial and domestic projects to be delivered to a range of budgets and detail without compromise.

All too often existing casement windows are painted shut. They are unable to function, give little or no ventilation, and yet are still cold and draughty during winter months. Our full restoration process starts with a full window appraisal, allowing us to establish the exact requirements of the restoration, identifying existing period features to be retained and establishing the full function of the window. The restoration projects will vastly increase the thermal and noise reduction qualities of your windows by primarily using our discretely installed perimeter draught seal system and fitting our ultra slim heritage double glazed glass units in place of the existing single glazed glass.

During Victorian times, both single storey canted and full height bay windows were very popular, incorporating individually crafted timber Victorian box sash windows and separated by stone or brick mullions. Timber circular bow windows with opening casements were also very popular, incorporating slender timber mullions and stained glass to maximise the view, originally very popular in seaside resorts, but later in towns and cities alike. Our reproduction bay and bow windows are created to ensure that these important details from past years are recreated in your new windows.

Existing period doors are often warped and poorly fitted causing a cold and draughty entrance to your property, as well as having security issues such as easily broken glass. Upgrading existing door furniture can also refresh the appearance of your door cost-effectively and improve security using modern locks. Our restoration projects will vastly increase the thermal and noise-reduction qualities of your door using our discretely fitted ultra slim heritage double glazed glass units, fitted frame and threshold draught proofing.

As well as paying great attention to detail with joinery designs, we also place great emphasis on finishing our work off with quality fixings and fastenings with a wide range of window and door ironmongery available. Our extensive range of ironmongery can be tailored to individual taste and architectural trends to tie in with any other period feature or influences you may have in your current interior design scheme. We can also accommodate individual tastes and fit the customer's own ironmongery upon special request.

Wooden windows have been around for thousands of years and still to this day we see many Victorian box sash windows surviving in our towns and cities. Wood is a beautiful material which can be used to craft so many wonderful details and unlike other window materials such as aluminium and PVC, is available through sustainable sources, being easily harvested to meet our needs, yet ecologically friendly upon disposal. All our windows are handcrafted out of quality hardwoods such as iroko, ipepe, meranti, and oak, which are incredibly dense, durable timbers, giving you peace of mind that you are purchasing a product that is designed to last the test of time.

Your property is gifted with stunning windows, which you love and cherish, and are a real architectural feature of your property, yet they are cold draughty, or painted shut and insecure so are a constant cause for concern. Fear no more as our bespoke restoration projects will vastly increase the thermal and noise reduction qualities of your windows whilst eliminating draughts and security issues whilst leaving your existing windows intact. Sympathetic to the structure of your home, unique replacement sashes and casement windows are made specifically for you to exactly match the originals, incorporating the latest Slim Line Double Glazed technology to ensure maximum thermal performance whilst also being aesthetically pleasing.

I'm so glad that I found Old English Window Company. We were desperate to find a solution to restore our 1914 stained glass bay windows in a way that was respectful to the original craftsmanship, but gave us the sound, thermal and security benefits of double glazing. Matt is really an expert on this, and totally understood what we were after from our initial conversation. Professional, responsive, prompt, clean and really experienced, they made a very daunting project an absolute breeze from start to finish. Our fitters (Ash and Phil) were a pleasure to have around and their attention to detail was superb. We're really happy with the end result. It seems strange to make a big investment in something that essentially looks the same, but that was exactly the point! The frames are the exact replica of the originals, but it's SO much quieter and warmer. If you're struggling to find someone you trust with your period windows, I would recommend these guys without hesitation.

The Old English Window Company fitted double glazed sash windows into our Victorian terraced house in May 2019. (I've been meaning to write this review for a while..) The house had the original sashes which were, amongst other things, draughty and painted shut. Since having double glazing the house is warmer, quieter, safer and the windows look great. From the initial contact Matt, Saran and their team were professional, friendly, respectful and thorough. All of my questions and requests were answered, and they were always on time and tidy. Thanks again for your hard work!
