At Exquisite Woods Ltd, we are passionate about wood, proud of our punctuality, dedicated to customer satisfaction and ready to transform your house into a beautiful home. We offer an extensive range of solid, engineered and parquet floors that will suit every requirement, satisfy every detail and exceed your expectation.

Exquisite Woods Ltd is a small family run business solely dedicated to wood flooring. We are specialists in the supply and installation of Solid, Engineered and Parquet wooden floors as well as the restoration of existing timber floors. We make a difference by being passionate about what we do, about wood. It is the simple conviction of "do it only if you were going to do it in your own house" that is our constant drive for better work techniques, materials and consumables. Our history of working with wood goes back 23 years, an invaluable period of learning and gaining experience about all kinds of timber flooring projects.

At the heart of our wood flooring Restoration Service lies the fact that we very much enjoy every stage of the restoration process, a prerequisite which makes the quality of our sanding and sealing second to none. Old and tired floors often hide spectacular beauty and it is a pleasure to claim it back. With us, you get the benefit of a truly personal service - direct communication, professional quoting service, punctuality, organised and honest all the way. At least 50% of our work, at any given time, comes from word of mouth, the network now being too extensive for us to track.

Exquisite Woods Ltd uses only proper 20/21mm thick quality Solid and Engineered wood floors, wider and longer boards, for the most authentic appearance. We do not use inferior, pre-finished, click system, thin engineered or laminated floors. Our work is our passion and as our customers will happily testify, we are not in the business of short cuts and we never rush. The number of people recommending us today is a testament to our true qualities. Attention to detail, like quality of edging for instance, comes quite naturally to us and we are able to carry out difficult and unusual tasks, quite often where others have declined to even consider the job.

Staining is the application of transparent colours aimed at changing the shade of the basic wood to darker tones or lighter tones. Many other colours exist, mostly based on darkening the wood for a more authentic/worn look. The only meaningful way of making a timber floor lighter is the application of a white transparent stain which tends to preserve the natural look of the wood by cancelling the pigmentation effect of the clear sealant which is to follow. It is never easy to achieve a patch-free continuous finish and we would recommend leaving staining to a professional.

As part of our Supply and Fit service we are able to supply a wide range of solid, and engineered wood floors. The same applies to the new and particularly reclaimed parquet blocks. The floors we work with are carefully selected to satisfy a number of criteria: they are from certified renewable sources, the wood is naturally dried and then kiln dried (as opposed to being sawn too quickly), the machining of the floors must be perfect with virtually no undulations and almost nothing to sand off when the planks fit together.

We are specialists in the supply and installation of a wide range of popular timber species with Oak being the most popular by far. Oak can be Prime Grade - clean surface without sapwood and knots and Character Grade - some sapwood and knots up to 25mm in diameter are allowed. Oak can also be square shouldered or micro bevelled. Other species we supply include Maple, Walnut, Beech, Ash, Elm, Wenge, Teak and more. Our solid wood floors are superior by design: quality of surface selection and machining are second to none.

Shifting furniture out of the rooms to be worked in is probably the first thing. As trivial as this is, it is often not easy as it requires storage space for the furniture and in some cases where individual items as exceptionally heavy (pianos, settees, etc.), it may be quite challenging. It is normally the customer's responsibility, however we often help particularly with heavy items or where people are just not able to handle it themselves for whatever reason. Preparing for sanding may involve a number of things, removing carpets and grippers is a regular occurrence (we can dispose of them if required).

Some wooden floors would be in need of attention before restoration can commence. Many floors will have loose or missing planks and the usual way of addressing this is to source additional timber. Naturally the wood specie would be identified first and then we would try to obtain the best possible match. Matching can be quite tricky as woods vary in grain character and age. Furthermore, the colour of wood varies substantially depending on how, if at all, it has been treated over the years. For instance, woods that have been varnished or painted are likely to sand lighter than woods left untreated (under carpets most probably) where the timber has oxidised from the air - those will invariably be darker in appearance.

The initial stage of each job includes several different preparation stages which may or may not apply to all jobs. Typically this would include measuring the damp content of the wooden materials and concrete subfloors in order to ensure that they are within the allowed values. Working with dry subfloors is vital for the life and stability of the flooring installation and we use two professional devices, both measuring moisture content within the material (concrete or wood) rather than just on the surface.

There are several important aspects in the sanding of solid wood flooring that we would consider - overall thickness, unevenness and board type - square shouldered or micro bevelled. These would determine the number of times the floor can be sanded, the severity of the sanding required and in the first instance whether a belt sander needs to be used or the floor can renovated with less aggressive methods. The life of a wooden floor is directly related to the number of times it can be sanded which depends generally on how thick the floor is.
