We have consistently stood up to a world that has favoured new over better. With single-minded determination we have not only designed and made furniture that lasts for generations but we have striven to support it with our very best customer service. Vits was the name of the company's founder, Niels Vits. Together with Otto Zapf he established Vits in 1959 to realise the furniture designs of Dieter Rams. Since 1995 the company's worldwide headquarters and production have been based in the United Kingdom.

Dieter Rams designed the 620 Chair Programme as a kit of parts. Separate chairs can become a sofa; a low back can be changed for a high back; and a swivel base can replace castors and feet. Rams speaks of "wanting to achieve the comfort of a classic armchair while remaining visually light". Whether you choose the robust softness of linen or the durable patina of leather, the true delight of the 620 comes when you take a seat. Both are natural materials, one being the woven product of zero-waste agriculture, the other being an ancient example of the use of a by-product.

Without middlemen our markup is lower than the industry norm allowing you to receive higher-quality furniture for your money via fair, honest price lists (the only difference between our price lists is the true cost of our administration and packaging to wherever you are in the world). Some companies routinely offer ‘discounts'. Yet this ability to discount may result from the presentation of a 'trade price list' that could contain prices higher than a 'retail price list'.

For over 60 years, Vits has worked continuously with Dieter Rams. He still improves his designs to this day and is often cited by a new generation as a key influence on their work that is shaping the 21st century. Back in the late 1970s, Dieter Rams was becoming increasingly concerned by the state of the world around him: "An impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises."
