From our workshops in Southwick village near Fareham, Hampshire, Back to Basics Furniture take on a wide range of commissions in Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey. Run by craftsmen rather than salesmen, we take time to listen and understand your requirements and take care to interpret your dreams into reality.

Whether your heart yearns for a traditional hand painted kitchen or a state of the art workspace, our experience and passion helps us to create handbuilt kitchens that are beautiful, functional and efficient. No two spaces are alike, and neither are our clients. Our design solutions start from your needs, with a build quality and finish to suit your pocket. Imagine a kitchen that really fits! Not designed around a modular unit system, but designed around the room it is to live in and the unique way in which you will use it.

At the first consultation, you will meet with Andrew Parsley, the owner of Back to Basics, to discuss what you like (or dislike) in terms of style, design and materials. In the case of a kitchen or home office, this also enables Andrew to find out how you intend to use and live in the room. Andrew has 25 years of experience designing kitchens to meet clients' needs. You are in safe hands! We then produce an initial design proposal and costing, which we talk you through at our workshop, where samples are on hand to demonstrate finishes and materials.

We can custom-build cabinets, bookshelves, home offices, bedroom furniture, tables and more from a wide variety of timbers and finishes, either from your own drawings or our interpretations of your ideas. Poured resin turns the natural cracks and fissures in characterful wood into designer-style, unique pieces. Coffee tables, dining tables, island worktops, sideboards, serving platters - you name it, we can make it! Resin is available in a variety of colours, shimmering or gloss. So happy with my beautiful kitchen, especially as poor Drew had to cart everything up 3 flights of stairs to fit it! Cannot recommend him or his company highly enough

What's new?

Really happy with our latest upcycled mid-century unit. Tempted to keep it myself if I had the room! Will shortly be available on etsy.

Hand cut angles for spot on joints. In an age of computer controlled precision machines we can get blas about the skill needed to cut angles so pieces fit perfectly. and after 27 years, yeah, I'm still chuffed when it all goes in sweetly!

Demolishing an old kitchen is usually one of my favourite stress-busting jobs but this time I had to do it carefully as the client has sold it on eBay! Great idea, and someone has got a real bargain! (we didn't make the Wendy house in the garden. cute though isn't it?)
