Here at Gerald Weir we have earned a solid reputation over our 65 years established for making quality furniture that is robust enough to last generations. Built to customers own specifications and individual needs, we work closely with our clients on making sure every piece is handcrafted to exacting standards as well as meeting their brief precisely.

Gerry Weir purchased a dilapidated timber mill in Ipswich at just 23 years old. Having completed his woodworking apprenticeship this is where his journey began in the furniture making business. He then went on to own two antique shops in Ipswich town for some 20 odd years, Gerrys knowledge and expertise in period furniture became re known and trade buyers would rely on him to source and restore container loads of furniture to be shipped all over the world. His timber mill premises soon occupied several cabinet makers, both restoring antiques as well as making new furniture for customers who couldn't find exactly what they were looking for in the antique market.

Our collection of oak and ash chairs are designed to complement our full range of furniture. Made by the very best manufacturers, every chair is either made or finished in our workshop to ensure exceptional quality and richness of colour.

Free standing or fitted our bedroom furniture includes beds, wardrobes, chests and bedside tables. Pairs of antique bedside tables are almost unobtainable, we offer a vast range of traditionally inspired designs.

The dining room is the social centre of any home with the dining table taking center stage. Primitive refectory tables for us have evolved into a vast array of designs with early English influence, resulting in substantial dining tables which are a pleasure to use. The designs available in this collection fit into many different settings, from inglenook cottage, fine country houses to modern classic rooms. This diversity is our forte.

Dressers have always played a significant role within our dining rooms. Originally referred to as a form of side table on which food was dressed before serving, they have progressed into a distinctive working piece of furniture in our kitchens of today. All in keeping with historical progress, our hand crafted dressers create a feature for any room. With every cabinet made to order, we can proportion designs to suit individual spaces.

Browse our collection which comprises a vast array of furniture of both classic and contemporary style. Free standing or fitted with numerous hardwoods to choose from in an extensive variety of finish options. The success of this well established portfolio is largely down to the quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail. Whatever your choice, these pieces of furniture will live on for many generations to come. View each catagory to see the complete range.

Whilst a brochure with a range of some 106 different designs is available to choose from, every piece is still tailor made for you. In some instances sizes showing ideal proportions are recommended, but all details can be made to suit your needs. Not just sizes, but mouldings, carvings, handles, many different colour and finish options and variances in sympathetic ageing as well. In addition to the brochure, over 50% of our sales come from clients who wish to see their own ideas interpreted. This may be anything from a combination of photographs you may have seen, taken from contemporary and period features of furniture, to coming in with a completely open mind where we can show you an enormous archive of photographs on an ipad, of previously made pieces and we can guide you step by step through the design process.
