Are you looking for a rated, reliable handyman in the Bromley area? Are you looking for someone to take on all those odd jobs around the home that you just never get the time to get done yourself? Steve the Handyman Bromley can help you with a wide range of plumbing, electrical, decorative and handyman skills? Maybe you have just moved home and are in need of a handyman to hang pictures, shelves and build the odd flat pack unit? Or you need a dripping tap fixed and some plumbing help is what you need?

Plaster repairs might be needed if you've stripped some wallpaper, or ripped out something fixed to a wall and you find a big area of plaster comes away with whatever your removing from the wall. The common cause of this is dampness of the wall which, however slight, over time will cause the layer of boding to break down and lose it's bond with the brick work. These types of plaster repairs can be straightforward enough to carry out, with one coat plaster now available to provide a quick drying bond and finish with one product.

Burst pipe repairs are frequently needed in the winter months as temperature plummet and cold water pipes, which haven't been insulated, run a high risk of freezing. The damage occurs when the water freezes as the volume of water increases from it's liquid state to solid. Surprisingly when frozen, water can expand up to 10%, and it's only when the water turns to liquid again that you know there's a problem. So all pipes under the floor at ground level should ideally be insulated and also pipes connecting any cold water storage tank and or central heating feed and expansion tank too as it can get pretty cold in your loft.

Quite often in spells of very wet weather, a door, especially if made of softwood, can expand enough to fit too tightly against the door frame. If this has happened to your front or back door you will know how annoying it is to struggle to open and close the door each time you use it. The solution is to remove the door, lay it on a trestle and plane the offending edge with an electric plane, gradually removing a millimetre or two of wood per pass. The trick with planing a door is to avoid breakout at the end of the run which is common with planing the top and bottom edges of a door.

Maybe over time you've noticed a damp patch appearing on the other side of the wall from your shower; this could well be a sign that your grouting and tile adhesive has failed due to the fact that water has been creeping into the joints and getting behind the tiles slowly breaking down the bond of the tile adhesive and trapping moisture behind the tiles. When this happens the water has nowhere to evaporate and starts to penetrate into the plaster and brickwork behind the tiles, if this continues unchecked eventually the tile or tiles will become loose and fall off of the wall, but hopefully you'll have some spare tiles or manage to save the loose ones before they fall away from the wall and smash.

If you need tap repairs or whether you're looking to replace your existing taps then that's a job I can certainly assist you with. Taps come in two varieties depending on the type of control you desire; the quarter turn or the conventional screw down. The conventional screw down taps are more prone to dripping but are very easy to maintain, most of the time a new washer will stop a dripping tap. Quarter turn taps will operate for years without maintenance in soft water areas but in London limescale build up can cause the internal workings to wear or fail due to hard water deposits.

Washing machine installations and dishwasher installations and can be a straightforward job providing the appliance to be installed is a being swapped for an existing appliance. This means you have all the necessary plumbing in place such as a cold water feed and standpipe or an adapted sink trap to accommodate the appliance waste pipe. However you may have bought a dishwasher where no previous dishwasher was installed, and in these cases some additional plumbing may need to be installed to accommodate the additional appliance.

Toilet repairs can arise from problems that go largely unnoticed, or other issues that can lead to your property flooding out, especially if your WC has an old syphon with no integral overflow and a badly connected overflow pipe. Most toilets do have valves with integral overflow these days and a higher than expected water bill may highlight an issue with either the flushing/drop valve or the filling/float valve. Some push botton valves may experience an issue with the button mechanism, which, if correctly identified, a replacement part can be ordered without too much plumbing upheaval.

A common job I'm asked to carry out for customers is blind fitting or curtain pole fixing and for the most part this is usually a fairly straightforward job although sometimes there can be issues with the fixings especially in ex-local authority flats or houses. The reason for this is that 60's local authority housing constructors specified a lot of concrete for lintels above windows which can prove difficult to drill into unless an SDS drill is used with variable hammer settings. Handheld drills just don't have the power in the hammer setting to drill into concrete and quite often you will see strips of plywood stuck above a window, and the curtain pole or blind is screwed to that piece of wood.

I offer a basic electrical service the details of which are listed below. It's important to know that any electrical work in wet areas or the installation of new circuits should be carried out by a qualified electrician with a Part P electrical qualification. If you need your sink unblocking then it may just be a case of cleaning your trap under the sink which stops foul smells from entering the kitchen from the kitchen sink waste pipework. Often food waste builds up over time and restricts the flow of waste water emptying from your sink, rice is a common food stuff which would cause a sink trap to block as grain by grain it builds up in the sink trap and also swells in size in the presence of water. If you cook lots of fatty meat and pour the fat down the sink then you may well have a more serious problem in the form of fat clogged pipes, gullies outside or drains.
