Services
Re-Thatching
Full re-thatching of cottages and barns using traditional Long Straw or Water Reed. Our process involves removing old thatch, inspecting structural integrity, and applying new materials to Master Thatcher standards. This service extends roof lifespan by 20-50 years depending on material choice and environmental factors. Clients benefit from improved insulation and preserved architectural heritage.
Re-Ridging
Replacement of roof ridges every 10-15 years to maintain waterproofing integrity. We match existing styles while reinforcing netting to prevent pest intrusion. This service costs 20-25% of a full re-thatch and includes repairing any underlying damage. Homeowners gain extended roof longevity while maintaining traditional aesthetics.
Roof Inspections
Comprehensive evaluations of thatched roofs for insurance or maintenance purposes. Our inspections identify wear patterns, pest activity, and fireproofing needs. We provide detailed reports with repair recommendations. Property owners receive clear guidance for preserving their thatched roofs.
Repairs
Urgent leak repairs using temporary sheeting followed by permanent thatching solutions. We address storm damage, rodent issues, and wear in high-stress areas like chimney joints. Clients benefit from rapid response times and heritage-compliant restoration techniques.
Traditional Styles
Application of regionally authentic thatching styles including block-cut and flush ridges. We incorporate local traditions like pinnacle decorations in north Essex. Homeowners maintain historical accuracy while meeting modern building regulations.
