I paid over 100 for 3 EI smoke alarms and a heat alarm in June 2013 - they included wireless networking so when one activates they all sound. These alarms start their low battery beeping when the battery drops from 100% to 99% so a brand new 4 Duracell PP3 lasts barely 6 months until it starts beeping and has to be replaced even though it's still perfectly fine. My dogs bark at a beeping smoke alarm so ignoring the beeping isn't an option (plus a beep that starts too early will encourage others to ignore the beeping as an inaccurate low battery warning). Paying 30+ a year replacing batteries that are still perfectly fine is an incredible waste of money not to mention the heavy environmental cost from throwing away batteries that are still full of charge. I'm now faced with ditching smoke alarms that are not life expired or spending a fortune on batteries for them. These are my first EI smoke alarms and I'm staggered at how badly designed they are.
