BCAL Consulting was established in 1983 as a Structural and Civil Engineering Consultancy practice. In response to growing needs, the company has taken every opportunity to expand its field of expertise, including Principal Designer and CDM Adviser services, and has the skills and organisation to lead projects from inception to completion. We advise on all stages of the construction engineering process, from pre-acquisition assessments to post occupancy. Our experience has enabled us to develop a clear objective to provide efficient and well-engineered design solutions within a framework of effective cost control, with an uncompromising commitment to quality and service.

Projects today are much more complex and varied as they reflect rapid technological advance. Those who commission them whether for industry, commerce or leisure, need sound advice not only in matters of design, but also in planning, construction law, engineering techniques, environmental services, cost control and project management. When commissioned to work within the framework of a multi-disciplinary design team, we aim to integrate the structural and civil elements into the overall project philosophy, with considered attention down to the finest detail.

BCAL Consulting has acted as Structural Engineer on projects with construction values of up to 50m. The variety of work undertaken ranges from complex finite element analysis of concrete flat slabs, steel frame design for stadium roofs through to structural renovation work to historic buildings. Extensive use is made of the very latest computer aided design and information technology, which is continuously developed to enhance the service to our clients. When commissioned to work within the framework of a multi-disciplinary design team, we aim to integrate the structure into the overall project philosophy, with considered attention down to the finest detail.

Our involvement in modern office buildings includes both for owner occupation and also commercial and retail development. As with most projects the structure and services require complete integration whether for an air-conditioned environment or more currently natural ventilation. We further believe that the selection of the structural grid and its relationships to the planning grid has a profound effect on the spaces created and flexibility in use to be provided. However, our overriding concern is to meet the specific requirements of the client's brief and approved cost plan to provide the best possible working environment.
