John Whiting is a RIBA chartered architect with over 30 years of professional experience in the design and management of a wide range of projects with award winning architectural practices in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. In 2005 John established his own practice based in Brighton providing architectural design services to private clients, public organisations, developers and working in collaboration with established practices on large projects. The practice provides full architectural services from early ideas and concepts through detail design to a completed building project.

As project architect with PTEA John oversaw the scheme and detail design of a new CDT block. The new two storey building provide a much needed upgrade to the schools facilities linking existing buildings and forming a new school entrance.

Outline planning for the redevelopment of a site previously occupied by garden outbuildings and hard standing area. The site is constrained by the amenity needs of existing properties and an adjoining new housing development. The proposal is to provide three new family houses, of three or four bedrooms, with separate lounge and large open plan kitchen/dining/family rooms opening into south facing gardens. The houses are two storey to relate in scale to adjacent buildings and oriented to maintain privacy and daylight amenity to neighbouring windows and gardens.

Probably the narrowest new building in Brighton has in-filled an unsightly gap in the historic St James Street frontage and enhanced the conservation area. Three apartments, a new shop and a mews house have been squeezed in to a narrow slot in St James Street. The project completes the regeneration of a neglected back street, the first phase of which provided six affordable houses.
