We are proud to have achieved something in the rubber industry that few manufacturing companies do in any industry, with technologies and markets constantly changing. Robert Martin, father to John Hadlow Martin, was working as a waterproofer in Southampton. He probably used early rubber-proofed products, produced by Robert Mackintosh from 1824 on. The first Martin's Rubber shop opens at 38 Bernard St, Southampton, owned by John Hadlow Martin. It was listed in the 1887 census as an 'India Rubber dealer and Gutta Percha manufacturer', selling proofing materials, fabrications, gaskets and hoses.
Our origins were in Victorian times, when the exciting properties of natural rubber were being embraced and developed byJoseph Macintosh, resulting in the famous rubber vulcanised canvas material that enabled tarpaulins to be truly waterproof, and the creation of his waterproof clothing generally known as "Mack's". Although John Hadlow Martin founded our company in 1865, his father Robert's trade was that of "Waterproofer", so clearly the Martins were already dealing in rubber products well before ourcompany was established.

Good to see INEOS Team UK racing well in the America's Cup qualifying races after huge amounts of effort to design, manufacture then unlock the performance of this amazing piece of technology, and allow the hugely talented crew to really show their skills - still much to do with continuous.
We're excited to be a part of the DASIS consortium, providing a full program from concept and development through to manufacture. There are a whole raft of skills and technologies in this group as well as all the material, design and production capabilities you could possibly need! If you're in.
Its beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, and a chance for some festive fun before we finish this highly unusual year with its many twists and turns.
