A sash window is made of two movable panels, or "sashes", that form a frame to hold panes of glass. Cotton cords with a nylon core run over the pulley wheels to connect the lead weights to the sash. By far the most common these days are double glazed timber sash windows. Popular in many areas of London, traditional wooden sash windows are often a mandated replacement. Before you make any decisions on your sash window replacements, contact your local council and make sure you're doing everything above board.

We know how important it is for you to understand how we work. At Core Sash Windows, we strive to make this purchasing process as clear and as stress-free as we can, so that you can be content in the knowledge that you'll be getting the product and service that is right for you. We will also provide you with a 10 year guarantee for your peace of mind. After getting an estimate, we will call you back within 48 hours to better understand your wooden sash window and door requirements. We will visit you to carry out a free, no obligation survey, Monday - Friday, 7am - 12 midday.

Shutters can really add a touch of elegance to your home and can be made to look great almost anywhere, particularly with sash windows or timber casement windows In addition, with such a wide range of options / colours available, there's something for everyone. Shutters are a great addition to your home and some styles have been popular for hundreds of years. Their practicality, functionality and alluring design has ensured that they have remained popular for a very long time. If you live in a house that looks like it needs a new lease on life, new windows or shutters might be a good way to go about it.

Casement windows are the most popular windows in the United Kingdom and around Europe. Essentially a casement is any window that operates on hinges. Our aluminium and timber casement windows offer great levels of heat retention and sound reduction, and are available with double or triple glazing. Since a casement window operates on hinges, there's much more variation in design, so there's something for everyone. Over time problems can develop with the hinges and handles. Double glazed units can fail and handles can become stiff and difficult to operate.

Aluminium windows are a great choice for casement windows since the higher strength of the material means that you can have smaller frames. This allows as much light as possible to enter your property. Aluminium casement windows are a sleek and modern design; a perfect choice for the practically minded customer. We've also recently added steel windows to our range - so if you're interested in steel products then just let us know. Aluminium is light and versatile but lasts a long time. It's very resilient to warping, corrosion and flexing, and 100% recyclable.

Double glazing means that there are two glass panes in the window, rather than one. Typically, double glazed units comprise a 4mm pane of glass, a 12mm or 16mm gap and then another 4mm pane. These units are all assembled and then inserted into the window by hand. The presence of Argon gas within the unit slows the movement of warm air within the glass unit. Other gasses can be sourced, Krypton for example, if you need more heat insulation. The low-emissivity coating means that these double glazed units are designed for optimal energy efficiency.

Single glazing is a window that has one glass pane, instead of double glazing which has two. This glass pane is typically held in with putty, then shaped to a 45 degree angle to allow water runoff. People will always need single glazing. Typically, they want it through a desire to retain the original character of their sash windows or to satisfy listed building requirements. Whilst we specialise in traditionally designed double glazing, true purists won't settle for anything less than the real thing.

Due to the government's energy saving initiative, sash window draught proofing has a lower rate of VAT (5%). We offer a flat price of 350 (+5% VAT) for this service, which may rise depending on the size of the window in question. Occasionally, your sash windows don't necessarily need to be replaced. On these occasions we could carry out a draught proof to make sure they're snug in their frames and operating smoothly. Sash window draught proofing can be a great service if you don't necessarily want to pay for new replacements or if you live in a historic building or conservation area.

A Full Restoration is the most comprehensive repair we offer. It involves removing the sashes from their openings, carrying out extensive resin repairs, rebuilding where necessary, and a full strip down and re-paint. This is an extensive process and is very labour intensive, so unless you live in a historic building or conservation area, or you have historic sash windows that you'd like to keep, then we would likely recommend replacement instead. Please note that this service is offered on a case-by-case basis.

All our products, from our sash windows to our doors, are designed with tradition in mind. Front doors are often the most ornate feature of your typical period property, so we have a lot of experience in producing them. They often have unique moulding and design features which other suppliers may not be able to offer with confidence. We pride ourselves on delivering traditional products the way a customer wants them, but without compromising on modern benefits. We can give you some technical documents to describe the door to help put your mind at rest.

Slim and strong, our well designed bifold doors conveniently fold to help maximise valuable London space. Of all door types, bifold doors cover the biggest openings. That means that these doors are an ideal solution to maximise light into the property and extend your garden view. We can produce these doors in either timber or aluminium. A single master door allows for conventional access on a daily basis. Thanks to the Brio system, the full folding effect can be achieved with only a few moments of smooth and precise sliding.

The short answer is that they are often the prettiest option! With the traditional elegance that comes with a time-honoured design like this, there's not much that can stand up to French doors in the looks department. French doors allow natural light into your home like no other product, which makes your living space much more pleasant. The large glass area also means that you'll have a great view of the garden, and they're the perfect companion to your traditional sash windows. All our products are designed with tradition in mind.

We recognise that timber isn't necessarily everyone's bag. That's why we like to offer a wider range of products so we can cater for the huge variety in taste throughout London. While aluminium doors can never match the familiar timber aesthetic, it does offer strength, durability and high resistance. This gives you slim profiles, less frame and more glass thanks to its natural strength. Between our aluminium and our timber products, and with the wide range of finishes available, we can cater to almost any taste.

We can supply French doors, traditional front doors / patio doors and single back doors. These products are perfect companions to some new sash windows. Our comprehensive door replacement service takes care of the whole process from start to finish - you won't need to contract any other trades to support this process. If you like the sound of our Casement & Door Replacement service, why not get a price with our Online Estimating Tool?
