We understand that you may want to make changes to your home, complete some DIY or make home improvements during the course of your tenancy. There are some alterations that you do not need our permission to do. However, other changes will require approval and, unfortunately, there are some which will not be allowed. If you are looking to make alterations to you home to help with a disability or health issue, then you may be eligible for financial support. Some improvements, such as new kitchens, bathrooms or windows have an expected period of time that they will last before they might need replacing.
It is important for both you and us, that your home is kept in good condition. As your home gets older, it may be necessary for us to replace or refurbish items such as kitchens, bathrooms, boilers, windows and doors. We will aim to visit your home every three years to carry out a stock condition survey, during which an assessment is made of the condition of key components such as the kitchen, bathroom and windows. Every year, homes that may need upgraded fittings will be further inspected for wear and tear.
Asbestos is a natural mineral that has been used in a range of building materials to make them more rigid and fire resistant. It was used widely as a building material in Great Britain from the 1930s through to the mid 1980s. It is our policy not to use materials containing asbestos in our properties. However, as we have a large variety of homes, some of which were built when asbestos was widely used, it is likely that some of our homes will contain asbestos in some form. Many people have worries about asbestos, but undisturbed asbestos is usually safe.
