ATC Construction have recently completed a first phase of a local authority loft insulation program in Edinburgh. Heat rises, and in an uninsulated home, a quarter of heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills. Loft insulation is effective for at least 40 years and it should pay for itself many times over. Insulating between the joists of your loft will keep your house warmer but make the roof space above colder.

ATC Construction are now installing Solar Panels as part of our microgeneration energy savings measures. You may ask yourself, what is microgeneration? Microgeneration is the small-scale generation of heat and electric power by individuals, small businesses and communities to meet their own needs, as alternatives or supplements to traditional centralized grid-connected power. Generate cheap, green electricity from sunlight. Solar panel electricity systems, also known as solar photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells.

Replacing my boiler. Boilers account for about 55 per cent of what you spend in a year on energy bills, so an efficient boiler makes a big difference. Modern boilers are more efficient for several reasons, but their main advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers burn their fuel very efficiently, but they inevitably lose some heat in the hot gases that escape up the flue. A condensing boiler has a larger heat exchanger, so it recovers more heat, sends cooler gases up the flue and is more efficient.

At ATC Construction we understand the skills and levels of workmanship required to plan and complete specialist carpentry and woodwork jobs. Some wood joints employ fasteners, bindings, or adhesives, while others will use only wood elements. The characteristics of wooden joints - strength, flexibility, toughness, appearance, etc. - derive from the properties of the joining materials and from how they are used in the joints. Therefore, different joinery techniques are used to meet differing requirements.

ATC Construction offer a variety of professional services to suit your needs. Our ‘all trades' approach ensures every client has a single point of contact no matter what skill set is required. We offer a reactive maintenance service for clients throughout the UK. Our approved sub-contractor network ensures that your emergencies are handled timely & efficiently. ATC Construction specialise in the fit out of bars, offices, restaurants, schools, homes & modular buildings.

Insulating your solid walls will cut your heating costs considerably, because solid walls let through twice as much heat as cavity walls do. The good news is they can be insulated. If your home was built before 1919, its external walls are probably solid rather than cavity walls. Cavity walls are made of two layers with a small gap or 'cavity' between them. Solid walls have no gap, so they let more heat through. Another way to tell is by measuring the width of the wall. Look at an external wall window or door and if the brick wall is less than 260mm, then it is likely a solid wall, while if it is greater, it is probably a cavity wall.

About a third of all the heat lost in an uninsulated home escapes through the walls. Heat will always flow from a warm area to a cold one. In winter, the colder it is outside, the faster heat from your home will escape into the surrounding air. Most houses built from the 1990s onwards have wall insulation to keep the heat in, but if your house is older than that it may not have any wall insulation. If this is the case then you may be heating the outside air, instead of just heating your home. Most types of wall can be insulated in one way or another.

ATC Construction recently completed a local authority funded scheme to improve energy standards in a housing estate where the properties were constructed in the 1950's. If your property was built after 1920, the chances are that external walls are made of two layers with a gap or cavity between them. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in to save energy. To insulate your cavity walls, our installer drills small holes around 22mm in size at intervals of around 1m in the outside wall of your property.

External Rendering is often the final touch that will finish off new builds or provide a face lift to an existing property. Rough or smooth finishes both offer their unique sealing and cosmetic properties and if undertaken carefully and professionally, will add value to your property. In a similar process to plastering, rendering is a job that requires high level skill and practiced trades people. Preparation For External Rendering - Unless the wall has been recently built, ATC will need to remove any debris or loose dirt - remove any plants growing up it, scrub off any mould with a bleach solution, and hose down the wall to remove any dust and dirt that could stop the render from adhering.

At ATC Construction we understand the skills and levels of workmanship required to plan and complete works associated with one of the most important spaces in your property. Our design team work closely with clients, listening carefully to your kitchen requirements ensuring you are 100% satisfied with your design. It is crucial kitchens have a coordinated sense of style. Mixing traditional wooden work surfaces with modern taps and lighting does not always provide the desired effect. It is a good idea to decide beforehand on the general aesthetic desired and only then focus on the smaller details.

Kitchens have become the centerpiece for most homes. The floor plans have become more open and creative. Homeowners want their kitchen to be representative of their lifestyle and as a result, designs are getting more and more complex, but still retaining all of a kitchens core functional use. Like any major work undertaken at your property kitchen fitting requires careful planning and consultation with all concerned parties.
