Mixed review for this company.
They were hired by our main builders to replace windows and add some new ones as part of a full house renovation starting in early 2021, which eventually finished in late 2021.
We have been subject to persistent delays over a period of months which have meant we have had to push other contractors back or cancel them - this has been at partly due to Riverside's failing to show up when they promised and not being great at communicating this. They installed half the windows (the ones which needed replacing) a little later than planned, and then the real issues started.
We went through a period across the summer and early autumn 2021 where Riverside promised that our windows were going to be delivered at the end of each week and fitted shortly after, or kept promising that they had received the materials, only to not show up at the property. Week after week.
We eventually cornered Neil Hiatt, a Director, who admitted they didn't have our windows and he asked for a cash advance to secure our materials from the supplier as they were struggling with cashflow. A quick check on their annual accounts on Companies House shows they are in a net liability position, and have had strikeoff notices. We were backed into a corner with nowhere else to go and paid the advance.
Called the following week to be told our material had arrived late on the Monday and would be fitted Tuesday. No one showed up on Tuesday. Neil said they'd been delayed on another job due to the weather - it had been raining, fair enough - and they would be out on Weds. However, they then didn't show on Weds morning, but only after lunch where it turned out they had driven to Birmingham to collect the materials. The story about the materials having arrived on Monday was a lie.
Frames were installed, but no glass. We were promised that it would be fitted the following day. No one showed up. Again. No notice was given, no calls or WhatsApps were answered. Eventually we were told that they hadn’t yet collected the glass as it hadn’t been made. In early October, most of the remaining glass showed up and was installed, with glass for the bifold doors missing. Eventually the bifolds were sorted a couple of weeks later.
Errors were made in frame colours, sizes and styles where we had asked for a few changes. We were far enough down the road, needed windows and ceased caring by this point as we had to move in urgently.
However, there has been a lack of effective communication and some errors in execution which - from the perspective of the homeowner - has caused us massive stress and uncertainty as we’ve simply not had a clear idea of what was going on. I’m not sure whether I believe that it’s all Riverside’s suppliers’ fault.
Anyway, that’s our experience. Personally, I don’t think we’d use them again, based on the lack of clear communication and apparent difficulty in working with their main suppliers or getting accurate information on lead times… it’s made it difficult for us to manage our project. They’ve now gone bust. Tells me everything.
Caveat emptor.
Friendly and reliable. Will definitely use them again.
We have recently had our complete house fitted with new Riverside windows and we couldn't be happier with the service and quality. We highly recommend Riverside and to reiterate some of the other reviews we wouldn't even consider a mainstream company. Thanks again Karl and Gav x
Just had our windows and doors done in Porthcawl by Riverside and they were awesome. Would definitely recommend them, don't even bother with the mainstream companies! You won't be disappointed :
Due to the restrictions imposed by the government we will be closing our offices this afternoon for approximately 3 weeks. We will be monitoring the situation as it develops and will re open as soon as the restrictions are lifted
Hi Neil. Just to say the boys have done a lovely job. I'm really happy with the end result. I believe a friend of mine will be in contact soon as she is also very impressed! Look forward to having you guys out again to do the rest of the house once I'm ready.
