UFO is a privately owned lighting manufacturer based in Coldstream, Scotland. We have been specialising in complete fibre optic lighting systems for the architectural, commercial, conservation, sensory and residential sectors since our establishment in 1991. All of our products are designed, engineered and assembled in-house at our 35,000 square foot manufacturing facility, using state of the art engineering equipment and the finest materials to ensure that quality and durability is that the heart of our systems.

UFO is a UK based manufacturer of fibre optic and LED lighting systems. We manufacture and supply from our factory in the Scottish Borders and offer an installation option. Pools, spa baths, saunas, fountains and garden water features can all benefit from being lit and with fibre optics you can offer another dimension with colour changing light. Systems can be supplied which allow the light source to be located either indoors or out. Fibre optics offer the safest method available for lighting wet areas. There is no scalding heat from the end fittings and electricity can be kept away from water and humid areas. We have a range of end fittings specially designed for use underwater and side glow fibre can give a distinctive line of light which looks wonderful at night when used to outline the shape of a pool or water feature.

Fibre optics offer the safest method available for lighting outdoor areas. End fittings, and the fibre tails themselves contain no electricity so are safe to touch and walk on even in the harshest conditions. With the ability to locate the light source in either a remote indoor location, or even outdoors in a weatherproof enclosure, fibre optics offer a flexible and easy to install method for illuminating signage, patios, decking and other outdoor areas. One of the last buildings to be designed by the acclaimed architect Will Alsop, the Neuron Pod, opened to the public on the 4th of March 2019.

Our lighting systems are trusted to light, amongst many other projects, the British Crown Jewels, Westminster Abbey Museum and Diana, Princess of Wales, wedding dress. We are specialists in conservation lighting for museums and galleries. We have a range of original products including the unique hermetic fittings, light tubes and light wands and specialist cabinet mounting extrusions with articulated fittings. Constant innovations and investment in new technologies such as LED light sources and our configurable MetroLED system help keep UFO ahead of their competitors in this fast moving industry.

UFO Lighting offers a wide range of paver, downlight and speciality fittings for use with fibre optic harnesses. All are manufactured in-house by our experienced engineers using the highest quality materials. Some types serve the function of focussing and/or directing the light, while others give a purely decorative finish to the ends of the fibre. Generally those with flat lenses do not alter the angle of the light cone, while those with domed lenses are focusable. UFO fittings are available in many decorative finishes, and for larger quantities some can be supplied with a custom finish.

From high powered metal halide to cool & quiet LED models, our range of light sources is unsurpassed in the industry. The light source (which is often also called a fibre optic projector or fibre optic illuminator) provides the illumination to any fibre optic lighting system. They contain the lamp or LED and any additional control gear to provide special lighting effects. Light sources are the only part of a fibre optic system which contains electricity, and they are the only part that, depending on the type, can get warm to the touch.
