We have decades of experience working with some of the UK's leading architects, construction companies, developers, restorers and other professionals to deliver superior bespoke timber windows and doors for projects of all sizes. From the grandest of buildings to the cutest of cottages, from Victorian listed mill projects to contemporary self builds, there isn't a project type that we haven't worked on since we began working with wood in 1884. Manufacturing on the same site in Donington, Lincolnshire since 1884, George Barnsdale's humble workshop has grown into a state of the art timber window joinery manufacturer with computer controlled laser cutting machines for precision joints, a robotic paint sprayer and our own on-site research and development centre.

All of us at George Barnsdale are passionate about what we do. Inquisitive by nature (we love solving problems) with a restless ambition to continuously improve, means that we can consistently deliver on our promise to manufacture premium, high performance timber windows and doors that provide long life with low maintenance. We blend detailed design with premium materials and cutting-edge technologies to ensure our windows and doors are made to the most exacting standards and deliver only exceptional performance.

Timber contemporary doors are perfect for new builds and modernised properties, or for those looking to make a statement in their home. Being a highly engineered product with superior levels of performance and quality, we are confident that our designs will leave a lasting first impression. These doors derive their air of quality from their sleek design, weight, fit and feel when opening and closing. Within the door panel we incorporate a flat steel stabiliser to help provide optimum strength, stability and insulation.

Not much has changed since Vitruvius wrote about the three pillars of architecture in the 1st century BC focusing on strength (firmitas), functionality (utilitas) and beauty (venustas). We have been working to the same principles since 1884 when George Barnsdale set up his joinery workshop in Donington, Lincolnshire in 1884. Some timber window manufacturers struggle to combine strict performance requirements with aesthetics resulting in products that are not as the architect visualised at concept and design stage.

The great advantage of timber sliding doors over other patio door designs is the extent of uninterrupted glass they allow when closed. This results in increased natural light and an unobstructed view of the outside landscape. Guided by our own stringent Glazing Visual Quality Standard, we accept only the best glass, guaranteeing maximum light inside and the clearest view looking out. We offer a number of sliding door configurations to suit the layout of the room and the size of the reveal. Our multi-point locking system provides a high degree of security.

Timber stable doors are increasingly popular and our own door designs replicate the traditional barn-style entrance that is especially suited to cottages and farmhouses. However, many people choose them for more contemporary projects, just opt for a bold colour or contemporary hardware and you're all set. It is perfect to keep small children and pets in place, yet allowing fresh air and light in. It has also been known as a double hung door, but we prefer stable door. If the colour coating you require is not included in our standard options then we can match a physical sample of branded paint colour.

Casement windows are standard in millions of homes but ours are anything but ordinary. Available in a wide range of shapes, styles and sizes, with or without glazing bars in any colour you can think of, they offer exceptional performance and beauty in equal abundance. Whether you live in an historic Grade II listed building or a contemporary new build, an Edwardian terrace or a medieval church conversion, our casement windows can be designed to match your requirements and that of the planning/conservation officer.

Our timber windows and doors are designed and manufactured to provide years of high performance with minimal maintenance. This commitment to performance and longevity is backed by industry-leading guarantees which are reinforced by our suppliers. We are proud of the guarantees that we offer and as such we are very transparent in how they work. Founded in 1884, George Barnsdale is a family run business manufacturing high-performance timber windows and doors in Donington, Lincolnshire and offering a nationwide project management and installation service.

The look and feel of any window is influenced by the choice of furniture. In the creation of our window furniture collections we have focussed upon the key elements of aesthetics, quality, security and performance. The Original Collection features our standard window handles. With simple, ergonomic design and push button locking, the handles are available in a range of colours, allowing seamless integration with a range of buildings and styles. Offering antique wrought iron handles and casement stays, the Foundry Collection has been designed to provide a rustic appearance that makes it ideally suited to traditional cottages and farmhouses.

Security is intrinsic to our timber door design, with the incorporation of multi-point locking and the most advanced cylinder locks as standard. All timber door designs have been tested to PAS 24 / Part Q, with our Contemporary Door designs being compliant as standard. To ensure the perfect fit for your project, each door design comes with high levels of customisation. Most features, from glazing to furniture, can be customised to your precise design requirements. Founded in 1884, George Barnsdale is a family run business manufacturing high-performance timber windows and doors in Donington, Lincolnshire and offering a nationwide project management and installation service.

Our tilt and turn windows are designed to provide exceptional versatility and performance. Incorporating a high performance dual hinge system, the window design can open into the room from either the side or the top, making them ideally suited to buildings with external shutters. Our timber tilt and turn windows can support a large number of sizes, including triple-glazed units. Coupled with a variety of paint, stain and window furniture options, the window can be highly customised to meet precise project requirements.

We have been manufacturing wooden windows at our Lincolnshire-based factory since 1884. Our commitment to quality, beauty and performance has always been at the forefront of what we do. Across our three timber window and door ranges - Traditional, Historic and Contemporary - we offer a number of window designs. To ensure a perfect fit with your home, all of our timber windows are highly customisable, and we offer a number of glazing, paint, stain and window furniture options. By selecting only premium materials and using an advanced coating system, our timber windows will continue to look good, with minimal maintenance, year-after-year.

French doors provide a timeless appeal and are a beautiful enhancement to any traditional or modern home. They offer an effortless link between the home and garden and have an undeniable charm and simple elegance. With a choice of paint and stain finishes and the option of dual colour, coupled with a selection of door furniture, our timber French doors can be completely customised to meet the requirements of your project. We also offer two types of locking system to support period designs. Similar to our entrance, back and stable door designs, all timber French doorsets incorporate multi-point locking and the most advanced cylinder locks.

Our commitment to a sustainable approach guides everything we do, from procurement to product design and the manufacturing process. We take a proactive approach to ensure we protect, conserve and minimise the potential for pollution and environmental impact. We are corporate sponsors of the Woodland Trust and also undertake campaigns to promote tree planting including sending 100 saplings to architects to encourage them to think seriously about using timber rather than uPVC or aluminium as part of the wider carbon capture agenda.

For over 135 years and five generations we have been committed to the design and manufacture of premium timber windows and doors in the UK. We're proud to still remain a family business and to operate from the same site in Donington, Lincolnshire. We have one of the most advanced timber window and door factories in the UK which has been designed to provide high levels of customisation throughout the manufacturing process. In pushing the boundaries of product design and performance, we are committed to a product testing programme, so much so that we've recently invested in a Research & Development Test Centre.

Bay windows are an attractive feature in many homes throughout the UK, flooding them with light and giving smaller rooms a more open and spacious feel. Bay windows are often one of the features that help to sell a home and give it real kerb appeal. Available in casement or sliding sash with optional glazing bars, George Barnsdale's timber bay windows can be made up of multiple panels creating the impression of a curve or a more angular shape, as required. With a range of colour, hardware and glazing options we can design a bay window that is completely unique.

With their concertina design timber bifold doors allow the creation of a clear opening, providing a seamless connection with the outside. With the option of inward and outward opening doors, our designs can be configured to work exactly as the space requires. A low profile aluminium threshold provides a smooth transition between the interior and exterior spaces. The incorporation of weather seals on the door leaves and within the track ensure that all parts of the door are well sealed, providing excellent protection from the elements.

Sliding sash windows have a timeless appeal and are ideal for period properties as well as traditional style newer homes. Featuring a choice of beautiful sash horns, astragal bars and elegant hardware, our sash windows offer ultra high performance on a par with the best casement windows thanks to our patented sash seal. Our range of historic box sash windows is designed to satisfy planners with the option of single or slimline double glazing, various design options and our smooth cord and sash window pulley system for absolute authenticity.

Our entrance doors exude an air of quality and refinement. They are extremely high performing, come with multipoint locking systems and are security tested to PAS 24 and to meet the requirements of Secured by Design and Part Q. Your front door says a lot about your home, it sets the scene, offers kerb appeal and is a key factor in the overall look and feel of your property. All our entrance doors are made from hardwood as standard with multiple stains and colour options as well as a comprehensive colour matching service.

Often referred to as horizontal sash windows, our timber Yorkshire sash window design couples a smooth gliding mechanism with advanced draught proofing using our patented seal system to provide unrivalled performance. A number of configurations are available which are designed to match and complement the existing style of period properties. We also offer narrow sash rails for historic properties that need to meet strict conservation and listed property planning requirements. We have carefully selected an elegant and traditional sash furniture collection which provides high levels of security.
