Butler & Hegarty Architects

Butler Hegarty Architects is an award-winning practice, with over thirty years' experience as conservation architects, historic buildings consultants and designers. Our work focuses on the understanding of historic buildings and places, and we have broad experience in working with diverse clients across a range of projects. We believe that existing buildings are a precious resource. We work on projects, ranging from high status listed buildings to more modest everyday environments. In each of our projects, we deploy our wide knowledge of traditional materials and craft techniques to develop sustainable ways of repairing and revitalizing many types of buildings.

At least one member of the core team is involved in every project, so that each client is given focussed and consistent attention. We are part of a network of other consultants, practitioners, specialised contractors and craftspeople, with whom we have worked over many years. Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Timber Buildings from Bournemouth University (based at the Weald and Downland Museum). Formerly tutor in architectural design and theory at Birmingham, Kingston and South Bank Universities.

Butler Hegarty Architects offer full architectural services, from project inception to completion, as set out by the RIBA. We offer a full conservation service, and we can advise on all aspects of repairing and upgrading historic buildings. We have a particular expertise in Georgian houses and timber framed buildings. We have developed a network of other consultants specializing in historic buildings and environments, with whom we work. We have specialist knowledge of the conservation and repair of historic buildings, and twenty years of experience in conservation projects.
