This was a project that any architect would love to have worked on. With the incredible Lincoln Catherdral in the background, our East Bight housing development was positioned on a parcel of land situated in the historical part of Lincoln city centre. The barn at the Old Vicarage in Tealby is part of a Grade II Listed building. The project brief for the barn was to create a habitable space for the owners of the property and create a new premises from which they could run their business. The site was a blank canvas and the developer wanted to create a land mark building within the landscape.

Origin Design Studio began as a limited company in March 2012, having previously worked as in house designers for an engineering practice. In 2019 we became an RIBA Chartered practice and were a Regional Finalist in the LABC Building Excellence Awards. We specialise, although not exclusively, in residential projects of varying scale including self build, new build, barn conversions, extensions, listed buildings and loft conversions. We are currently expanding our commercial portfolio with office developments, leisure and retail projects and work on heavy and light industry buildings.

It is not always a simple task to determine the best scheme for a project or whether a development offers the required ROI (return on investment). In order resolve these factors it is wise to undertake an in depth preliminary investigation. A feasability study provides an examination of what development opportunities can be undertaken and looks at different schemes in order to determine the most appropriate usage and arrangement. We can offer bespoke architectural design services, providing a clear design scheme for your project.

Some projects will require new structural elements that require design. Before Architecture Rob worked with a Structural Engineering firm and gained a wealth of expertise in designing and calculating steel elements. Therefore as well as Architectural services, for small projects we can offer design and specification of Steel Beams, Lintels and other structural elements. Many Planning Applications especially those in and around Lincolnshire require a Flood Risk Assessment. At Origin Design Studio we will assess wether your project requires an assessment.

For more complex projects it is advisable to submit a full set of plans with specification notes to Building Control for approval prior to construction as any alterations enforced by Building Control could prove costly. Development standards are governed by the building regulations, ensuring buildings are safe to use, accessible to all and energy efficient. For simple projects it is possible to undertake construction under a 'building notice', whereby the client or builder will deal with all aspects of the regulations with Building Control.
