Skidmores was founded in 1919 by Edward James Skidmore, who came to Weston to visit his son, Stanley Hugh Skidmore, who was convalescing after being injured in the 1st World War. He found his perfect location in Worle High Street and set about serving the local community with hardware, ironmongery, paint, new and used furniture. Edward prided himself on hard work and personal service. This ethos was passed down through his son Stanley and on to his grandson's Bill and Bert, who carried the business through the 50s, 60s, 70s and 1980s, giving the business the platform from which it exists today.
