Claude began his company nearly 40 years ago when he set up a woodworking bench in a derelict barn. He had a vision to introduce his clients to the enduring quality and value of tailormade cabinetry. So, he placed an advert in House and Garden magazine. To get work in London it was also essential to have central London telephone number. I managed to do this by renting a desk in Nottingham Street, W1 to put an answer machine on. Then I used to play back the tape to retrieve new client enquiries. Mobile phones and the Internet didn't exist in those days.
