The roof trusses that we see today are frames of triangulated timber joined together with galvanized metal roof truss connector plates. The shape of wooden roof trusses has not changed over the years but the make-up and spans possible certainly has. Timber framing has been popular in building construction for thousands of years thanks to the sturdy, resilient qualities of the material and relative ease of construction. Archaeologists have uncovered traces of timber-framed homes in Britain that date back over 10,000 years!

At Griggs Timber we are proud of our reputation for excellence, efficiency, service and value which we have maintained for over 140 years. Originally founded in Loughborough in 1875 by Joseph Griggs, we opened for business in Gloucester in 1917 and have operated out of the same site ever since. Over the years, our strengths as timber merchants have seen us diversify from selling mainly softwood, to designing and manufacturing roof trusses, joists, and timber frame houses. We are still very much active as timber merchants - supplying a range of sheet materials, timber machined to specification in our own mill, as well as a range of timber products including Cedar, Larch Thermowood and hardwoods.

We offer bespoke solutions for roof, flooring and timber frame house designs. We can also offer advice on the best design for your project based on the level of performance that you specifically require for your roof or floor. We can turn your project from feasibility to reality in a time scale to suit you. We also keep a stock of several joists sizes as well as all the necessary ancillary items such as metalwork and hangers.

Griggs use the very latest design and management software and utilise its full power to produce quotations, designs, layouts and calculations as well as to manage our production and delivery facilities. This means that your trusses will arrive on-site at the promised time, every time. Our fully itemised quotations detail exactly what will arrive on site so that no unpleasant surprises are discovered later. This is a completely flexible package but can include roof trusses, engineered timber beams, loose structural timbers, temporary bracing, metalwork and hangers, wall plates, straps, fascias and soffits and any other timber element that you specify.

Although we have a standard Timber Frame specification nothing is set in stone. We are completely adaptable and will supply as much, or as little of the structure as you require. Includes soleplates (complete with fixing angles and DPC), external and internal wall panels, timber engineered floor "I" joists system as standard, chipboard decking, plasterboard and service noggins, spandrel panels, structural roof (including trusses, gable ladders and bracing), fascias, barge board and soffit ply, stainless steel brickwork wall ties, Joinery fixing batten/cavity closer and layout plans complete with all structural calculations.
