Clarkes was formed in 1968 by Nobby Clarke and his son, Tim. The business' original location was in North Street, Romford. In 1972, the company relocated to our current premises on Roneo Corner, allowing us to offer a greater range of products and services. Since then, we've been on a quest for perfection, specifying, supplying and installing only the best flooring solutions for our customers.

Since 2014, Clarkes has been supplying high-quality table, floor, wall and ceiling lighting, with a vast portfolio of products from some manufacturers across the UK and beyond, ranging from practical to statement pieces for your household. For more than five years, Clarkes has stepped into the void to become the leading showroom for premium quality lighting in the Romford area. At our purpose-built store, we display over 250 ceiling lighting options in 21 different roomsets, with matching collections designed to give you inspiration about how you want your household to look and feel.

Hard flooring doesn't need to be boring or purely practical. At Clarkes, we supply and install a great range of design-led hard flooring brands, with a wide choice of inspirational, timeless colours and patterns. We are very proud of our dedicated hard flooring showroom displaying laminate, engineered wood, sheet vinyl, and luxury vinyl tile (LVT), with a new addition of vinyl-click floors. Showcasing manufacturers including Quickstep, Amtico, Karndean and many more, we are sure you'll find what you're looking for.

In our upholstery section we have all types and styles, recliners, sofas, occasional chairs and footstools in a traditional, modern and contemporary style. They are available in numerous coverings from fabrics to leather.

In 2014 we realised the need for a quality lighting showroom in the Essex area. A local family business and friend of the store ‘Havering Lighting' had decided to retire and there was no longer a lighting store available to service the local community. We undertook the task of creating our own unique area of lighting on the upper floor of our showroom and believe the results are stunning. With more than 250 lights on display all our 21 roomsets are used to show matching collections of Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Wall Lights and Ceiling Lights in a fabulous homely environment.

Engineered flooring is designed to give you a real wood look and feel while reducing the issues that can occur with a solid product. It still has all the properties of real wood but is constructed by placing a very thick veneer on top of a more stable board such as HDF or Plywood. This allows the wood to expand and contract much better in the modern house. Due to the new heating systems a solid product can struggle to adapt with the very quick changes in temperature due to the radiators and lack of moisture in the air.

With a loop pile carpet, the yarn forms loops on the surface of the carpet, either in uniform height, or with differing heights to create a textured loop pile. One of the main benefits of loop pile carpet weaves is that they offer no visible footprinting or shading.

We buy our rugs from all over the world allowing us to offer machine made wiltons to hand tufted and the exclusive hand knotted rugs from Persia. Our stock collection is in excess of 1000 items all displayed on hanging systems throughout the store allowing customers to view every rug in its full entirety at your leisure and in comfort. All shapes are accomodated for with circles and half moons on show. If for any reason you cannot find exactly what you are looking for your ‘Perfect Rug' then we offer a service of customising your rug to the exact size and colour of your choice.
