We offer a complete one stop shop for fireplaces, including the supply and fitting of gas fires, electric fires and real fires. We offer our own exclusive fireplace designs, plus fires and fireplaces from leading manufacturers. Our own exclusive fireplace designs cover the complete range from modern contemporary to traditional. All styles of fireplaces and fires are on live display at our large 2200 square foot fireplace showroom in Watford Rd, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Our fireplaces are available in Portuguese natural limestone, sandstone, marble, timber, oak and all other types of stone and wood.

Our fireplace and stove company started in 1983 and is still run by the original local owner. We are proud to be small enough to give a personal service, but big enough to offer a complete range of products services and after sales back up. We pride ourselves on being able to offer the full service of conception to completion of your desired fire, fireplace or stove. The showroom has grown over the years to an impressive 2200 square feet premise in Watford Rd, Chiswell Green, St Albans, Hertfordshire which is a few minutes off Junc 21a of the M25, M1 South Junc 7-8 or M1 North Junc 6.

Our English limestone fireplaces are made of limestone from the Jurassic geological period. The Bath Stone is mellow, open grained and light in colour with a slightly rough texture. The contrasting Cotswold stone is typically the North Cotswold area being of slightly coarser texture, darker and warmer in colour. The naturally occurring fossils and even some small crystal forms are part of the stones natural beauty and should not be considered as defects. All of our English limestone fireplaces are individually made by English Heritage approved stone masons so they are validated by a personal endorsed certificate to underscore the authenticity.

Our popular and classic limestone fireplaces can be used with gas fires, electric fires and real fires. We use quality Portuguese limestone, agean limestone, English limestone and Umbrian limestone to make your made-to-measure customised and unique fireplace. Contemporary & modern fireplaces come in all shapes and sizes. We offer fireplaces that are low in height, due to ever increasing demand to leave enough pace above them for large mirrors, pictures or televisions. Simple but elegant hole in the wall fires where less is defiantly more.

There are many different types & styles of gas fires. Some require a chimney or flue. Then there is balanced flued, power flued & catalytic converter flue- less fires that do not need a chimney or flue at all! Electric fires have the benefit that the "flames" can be used independently without any heat, so you can still enjoy the cosiness of the flames on dark mild evenings or when the central heating is on, without overheating only a few pence per hour. Real fires have been with us since the cave man days, but with evolution come efficient fires!

Here at Chiswell Fireplaces we offer a one stop shop where we can offer the full service from conception to completion. After purchasing your fireplace or stove package from Chiswell Fireplaces one of our fully trained installation teams will come to carry out the installation. Our fitting teams have years of experience between them fittingfireplaces, fire surrounds, fires and stoves - gas, solid fuel and electric. We are Gas Safe and HETAS qualified, with over 30 years of experience in the industry and our company ethos is professionalism, customer service and pride in our work.

Oak is our most popular material for surrounds, it is so versatile as it can be stained various colours to give it a contemporary or a traditional feel. Being the nature of the wood a close grain will naturally give the surround a darker colour, whereas an open grain will give a lighter colour. Pine is a knotty soft wood, a popular sustainable material and a common material used in fireplace surrounds. It can be stained or waxed in various different colours, most popular is an antiqued wax finish which gives a light brown distressed finish.
