Premier Preservations have become specialists in this area of structural work, most of our work is carried out under the supervision of a qualified structural engineer or chartered building surveyor. We can also advise you on the appointment of a suitable structural engineer or chartered building surveyor. Signs of bulging brickwork are often highlighted on houses where a middle section of a wall is pulling away from the main structure of the building. The cause of such buckling walls is often due to the combination of excessive vertical loads and inadequate mechanical connection between perimeter walls and the main structure of the building.

Rising Damp is a result of a capillary action i.e., the flow of water from the ground against gravity. This is usually due to a lack of a physical damp-proof course (DPC). Where this occurs a damp zone usually extends to the whole length of the wall to a height of 500mm or more above skirting-board level. Where the DPC does exist and if this DPC is broken or bridged then patches of damp may occur. To solve the issue of rising damp in your property you may require the installation of a damp proof course.

The design of the waterproofing system should preferably be carried out by a C.S.S.W. (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) who will work within the guidelines recommended by BS8102: 2009 'protection of structures against water from the ground' recommendations. Any work should be carried out by a PCA registered company. This means that you can be certain that the work will be undertaken with very little risk of failure in future years. Usually some or all walls are partially or wholly below exterior ground.

As the name implies, this type of fungus (which can develop in complete darkness) attacks timber which is in a permanently very damp or wet state. Commonly found in timbers that have become damp, wet rot cannot begin attacking wood unless there is a moisture content of at least 20% and, as a result, does not normally occur in internal timbers unless there is a significant dampness issue. This is usually as a result of timbers coming into contact with damp masonry. Wet rot in timber can cause issues with the structure of a property making it essential that you identify signs of wet rot before further damage is done.
