Formed by Mr Brian Drummond in 1960, Drummond Reid has grown in size and stature ever since. During the early part of the firms existence French Polishers Northern Ireland Furniture Polishing and Piano Restoration Drummond Reid had teamed up with Craig Reid Pianos and primarily our work was restoring and French polishing grand and upright pianos. However, if you can restore a 1910 Steinway Grand you can easily restore furniture! Well not exactly easily, but the same principals apply. From humble premises in Cromac Square and the Lisburn Road we are now situated at Temple just two minutes from the Carryduff roundabout.
What's involved in furniture restoration? A frequently asked question by people who are curious about what we do. Answer. We do everything, from totally rebuilding antiques to repolishing the likes of modern day table, desk etc. Everything connected to timber and furniture. The majority of antiques now days are in a bad state of disrepair due to age, modern day heating systems and general neglect. We would always endeavour to keep an antique the way it was when it was first made, say 100 years ago.
One of the most rewarding and cost-effective household projects is reviving an old piece of furniture with a fresh coat of paint. However, just sanding it and coating with a brush make give it a lift, but buy re-painting with a spray lacquer finish the difference is clear to see! No runs, no brush strokes, no streaks just a pure clean level finish. Painted furniture can freshen up the look of any space-and you can easily change the colour to coordinate with a room's colour scheme. Good candidates for painting are dressers, tables, bookcases, mirror frames, and non-upholstered chairs.
French polishing covers a wide range in terms of woodfinishing. Generally it is widely accepted to be the ultimate in wood finishing. Traditional French polishing is rarely used these days except on certain items of furnitureFrench Polished Table that require it i.e. antiques. It is also still required for certain houses and buildings that require the likes of the original panelling or staircases to be restored to their former glory. The art of the French polishing technique has been widely embraced by our team of French polishers and is used regularly to achieve the ultimate finish.

New Steinhoven for my two daughters who play every day. They knew what feel of piano they wanted and were spoilt for choice when we visited Drummond Reid pianos. They have a massive range and my girls were encouraged to spend and hour or so trying lots to get what they wanted. Surprise surpise for me but they were most happy with a mid price piano as its size and most important to them key feel was just right. I was able to agree an unbeatable price as I had spent the hour online with the free wifi checking every competitor I could find that had similar versions. Delivered the next day and girls have already passed their next grade and love it. I have already mentioned this company to my friends and most have already been and bought, some for beginners and even one for a grand piano for their school. Obviously the kids have dragged me back as an guitar was on the birthday list. Again excellent range and service and we ended up with a beautiful Yamaha semi electric acoustic.
