Newcastle Wood Recycling CIC is a not-for-profit organisation on a mission to divert wood from the local waste stream, while creating employment, training and volunteering opportunities to people in the community. The timber we collect is used to create beautiful furniture and woodwork pieces for homes, gardens and businesses, or sold on for DIY material or as firewood. We have transformed our wood yard, a former council depot in Walker, into a sustainable, vibrant space which serves as an asset to the local community.
We pack our cage really tightly so you don't get the void space (up to 40%) that you do with a skip, so you save again. You only pay for what we take away, so our service can work out to be 20% to 30% cheaper than using a typical builder's skip. Whatever size skip you use to dispose of your wood waste, give us a call to find out how we can reduce your costs! Prevent perfectly good wood from being chipped or sent to landfill. Every piece of wood that we collect is graded for reuse, unlike wood which is put into a skip and landfilled or at best "downcycled" into woodchip.
We are unable to respond to volunteer enquiries at the moment but we will get back to you as soon as our services are fully resumed. We would love to hear from anyone with time on their hands who fancies getting involved in our project of recycling and reusing waste wood for the benefit of the community. Volunteers are always in demand and no experience is necessary. Adults of all ages and all backgrounds are very welcome to take part, for as little or as much time as they can spare. There is a very wide range of activities to get involved with - such as helping to collect wood from building sites; helping to prepare wood or make products in the workshop; working in the retail side or helping behind the scenes with admin, accounts, IT or marketing.
Amazing place, really cool people. Be sure to check out some of the hand-turned products in the shop, really cool stuff.
Great place and great people. Always get my stove fuel from here and today picked up some brackets and scaffolding boards for a couple of 2.5m long kitchen shelves. The hand made tables & stools are fantastic too.
I'm delighted with the wooden mantle made from a joist. Staff were very helpful and are very knowledgeable too. Couldn't recommend this place more.
