Table lamps are an important addition to any space where a bit of extra light is needed. Usually located on desks or bedside tables, the humble table lamp fills both a practical and a decorative need. A table lamp can give a room a more cosy and homely feel, so it can be an especially good touch for a guest room or a lobby. Good lamp design also takes heat output into account, so that prolonged use won't lead to overheating. By careful selection and good placement of table lamps, you can achieve good lighting and decorative results.

Floor lamps fill a role between table lamps and wall lights. More versatile than either of the other two, a floor lamp can be placed anywhere in a room and stands completely independently. When the intention is simply to provide a less intense light than your main lighting on the ceiling, a floor lamp will do well when placed in a corner (also the safest place for a floor lamp), and it is best to choose designs with a heavy shade in this case. To give very focused light, it's better to choose designs that are adjustable and which can place light directly over the area you want to illuminate.

At Christopher Wray, we offer a complete chandelier and lighting restoration and re-wiring service. Our experienced and skilled craftsmen are able to undertake most projects ranging from re-wiring to complete restorations of chandeliers. Depending upon the level of restoration needed, we can either transport your chandelier or lamp to our workshop for repair or we will carry the task out at your property. If we do need to transport your chandelier to our workshop then we will carefully dismantle, package and arrange the transport before delivering and re-hanging the restored item in your residence.

Downlighters are best used in interconnecting spaces and at door entrances (or, indeed, exits). They are one of the most economical lighting choices, with some even being able to work with LEDs. The important thing with downlighters is to use them sensibly. The light they produce can be quite intense, and there is a risk of making your living room look like a convention centre if you use too many. Of course if you are designing a convention centre, downlighters are absolutely ideal. Placing downlighters strategically allows you to draw light to particular areas in a room.
