Moving house can be an extremely busy time but by following the advice, tips and checklists below we hope that your experience is as stress-free as possible and a happy memory. As soon as you move into your new home, it is important that you take gas and electricity readings and contact your utility companies to connect to services. It is also important that you have taken meter readings and cancelled any services connected in your old home. Contact your current gas supplier on the number you were given in Step 1. Tell them that you are the new occupier and give them the meter reading.

Furniture Matters, part of The Calico Group, is a reuse, recycling and training charity with shops in Blackpool, Morecambe, and Lancaster. The donations and collections of unwanted household items, are extensively refurbished by staff and volunteers and provided at low cost to local people in need. Every item donated results in training people in new skills, creating local employment opportunities, saves items from landfill, and provides good quality reconditioned items to local people. Funded through Progress Housing Group's Community Investment Fund, the Furniture Futures team collects items of furniture from empty Progress Housing Group properties once tenants have moved out of their homes, or from current tenants who have an item of unwanted furniture they no longer have use for.

Then you should go outside andcall the National Gas Service Emergency Line on 0800 111 999 to report a suspected gas leak. They'll advise you from there. Call us on if you don't seem to have gas coming to your property, but you don't smell a gas leak. If you're having difficulty keeping up with your payments and keeping the meter topped up, please get in touch. We can discuss how we can help and refer you to other organisations if you'd like some impartial advice. Please note, in line with government latest instruction to protect staff and customers, we are now restricting our repairs service to emergencies and to health and safety-related works, including all statutory compliance work.

We also provide several Extra Care Schemes that offer additional support from care providers based on site, who can provide personal care as and when required. As a social landlord, we are committed to providing high-quality housing at an affordable cost. In addition to your rent, you will also pay a support charge, which covers the costs of your independent living coordinator and alarm system, and a service charge, which includes the maintenance of communal facilities and services. Your household running costs - things like your Council Tax, TV Licence, utility bills, window cleaning, phone line and home contents insurance - are not covered by our rent or service charge, and you will need to continue to budget for these.
