Our business, founded in 1900 by brothers Edward and Arthur Wates, is possibly unique within Britain. We combine traditional service and a wealth of product knowledge with interior design resources, fabulous furniture and specialist restoration skills. Whether it be supplying the latest sofa or restoring Granny's grand piano, the same enthusiasm and passion will accompany every enquiry, where we will work with you to meet every furnishing challenge. The brothers started this comprehensive furnishing service and also constructed thousands of houses within the locality.

When we come across something really special - a Victorian boudoir chair, a classic deco chair or some mid-century dining or living furniture we restore and reupholster it with a whole new look. See our skilled craftspeople demonstrating reupholstery, cabinet making, French polishing, gilding, caning and rushing. Our talented team of craftspeople can restore your upholstery from the frame upwards if necessary, from new springs to goose down cushions. We use traditional techniques to restore antique and classic pieces with a whole new look. In our purpose-built workshop the requirements are incredibly varied. Restoration can range from a deep buttoned Queen Anne chair, a Georgian bergère, a Charles Eames c20th classic or an Ikea daybed.
